Are You Flexible Enough To Do Yoga?

The Big Question!

This is the top yoga question every potential student asks themselves, and can even be the reason people decide yoga can’t be for them. They imagine being asked to do things with their body they can’t manage in class, and this puts them off. The one big thing to keep in mind is that any decent yoga teacher will be flexible, and not in the bendy sense. Your teacher can always adapt postures for any level of mobility or flexibility.

You practice yoga to get flexible, not because you’re flexible already. You won’t show up to yoga and be surrounded by fitness models with their legs behind their heads. Every class is a completely mixed bag! Your teacher would never knowingly demand more from you than your body can handle. So talk to your teacher before class about any mobility issues and get to know them!

Everyone has to take the first step and you are not alone!

By taking up yoga you’re investing in your flexibility and bodily health, whether you’re a seasoned runner or someone who only walks to the corner shop. Your age, weight or fitness level doesn’t determine whether you can practice yoga, it can just influence how you adapt your postures. Any decent teacher will be happy to discuss adaptations with beginners, or ease any worries about flexibility.

So don’t sweat it! (unless you’re doing hot yoga 😉 )

Are you flexible enough to do yoga? YES, YES, YES!
