What Advice Can You Give For Working On Your Ajna?

As a great man once said: ‘even the very wise cannot see all ends’ (The wise man is Gandalf, but we’ll overlook that for now ;)). Expanding our perceptions does not start and end with the spiritual self. In fact it never really ends at all. The Ajna is the Chakra most associated with meditation practice, and it’s clear why. When your mind is clear, insights reveal themselves more readily. Meditation is where we ‘reorganise’ our mind and spiritual self – a space where we can go beyond our reality and find greater meaning. Meditation really is the path to a healthy Third Eye Chakra, and a healthy mind.

Pay attention to your dreams. What does your subconscious seem preoccupied with? When we dream, our brains are ‘filing away’ our thoughts and experiences. But it does this in abstract ways, and not in order. What keeps popping up? What folder keeps falling out onto the floor? Is it labelled? A specific person or memory? A place that causes anxiety?

Most of us have no trouble daydreaming a perfect life or imagining amazing people to spend it with. But working on the Third Eye Chakra is about honing our imagination and insight in order to improve the lives we’re already living. Fantasising and imagination can be a shelter to avoid uncomfortable, mortal truths. People fear truth, especially truths that might change them. Understanding the perspectives of others means walking in their shoes a little while – and walking in shoes that don’t fit you can really hurt.

It’s easy to get discouraged and forget the larger picture of who we are and where we belong. The Third Eye Chakra is about untangling our perceptions and accepting the multiple truths of multiple perspectives. This is especially relevant when dealing with people whose spiritual ideas differ from yours. We believe the meaning of the Ajna is essentially acceptance of multiple truths – whether these are spiritual, idealistic, or personal.
