While practicing, the body is opening on the inside on an exhale. Make sure that you hold each posture for at least three long breaths and make exhalations much relaxed slow and deliberately longer than the inhalations. Doing is believing.
After doing my first teachers training at sivananda in Kerala, I went to Mysore in India to do my second teachers training with Bharat shetty, an amazing teacher and we started with holding a posture up to 3 breaths and then to 9 at least. Its amazing how wonderous that feels and how quickly you open up.
