Believe it or not, too many people still don’t believe in yoga. Reasons can include petty excuses such as “I don’t have any time”, or “I’ve got other things to do”. Well! I’m here to prove those people wrong.
You see, recently I have been trying to pull close relatives into the yoga stream of life, and this has been a bit of a controversial topic. My male entourage tends to think that yoga is for women (which most definitely is WRONG!! Read my previous article about yoga for men here), and the women have a tendency to say they have “real jobs” and “no time”.
Here are a two examples of how to incorporate yoga into your daily life, and this my friends is just the tip of the iceberg…
1. Teethbrushing. Why not try… Leaning over the sink (which you need to do anyway) by stepping a little backwards, feet firmly on the ground, holding the sink with one arm (because of course the other arm is holding your tooth brush) and leaning your entire body forward so that in fact you are triangular to the basin. This my friends is called the forward facing dog Asana and it looks a little like this:
2. Dishwashing. How about incorporating the tree pose? It’s very simple… Whilst your washing your dishes in the basin, stand straight with your feet firmly posed on the floor. On an exhale, slowly bring one of your feet up the inner sides of your leg, bringing it as far up the leg as possible (maybe use your arm to pull & lock it into a position you feel most comfortable in). This pose is in fact very good for your hamstrings and quadriceps and benefits include improved balance and concentration. It looks like this:
The most important aspect is that you feel free enough in your clothes to be able to do this postures. For example, I tried a tree pose the other day whilst wearing skinny jeans (now that was never going to work, was it?) Try wearing comfortable, flexible clothes as soon as you walk in the door and I promise they will induce you to exercise!
Still think there’s no time for yoga in your life? Haven’t convinced you enough?
Please feel free to read “Yoga In No Time At All” by Joel Digirolamo hereas it explains in significant detail how to incorporate Yoga even at work!
