Injury Recovery Tips

Recovery is a process. Our wounds don’t heal overnight and can impact our whole lives as well as our personal fitness. You can’t do better than getting expert advice ASAP – there might be more going on at the injury site than you think.

It’s hard taking it slow when all you want to do is hit the yoga mat and get practicing again, but the key to recovery is patience. It’s a fine balance between overworking and underworking an injury area, and staying on the right track AND keeping this balance can feel a lot like walking a tightrope! Depending on your injury, the fall can be very high! Here are a couple of simple tips from us to support you in your recovery.

Tip 1:

Keep a Diary: Grab a little notebook and make a note of everything that aggravates your injury, what you did and where, what times of day it bothers you most, etc. This is an invaluable tip because it shows us what aspects of our lifestyle and the general unpredictability of life affect our bodies. You’re guaranteed to notice pain or improvements related to things you never would have expected. It’s all about noticing patterns.

Tip 2:

Back to Basics: If you simply HAVE to keep practicing, return to the most basic of sequences, adapting the simplest poses to your injury.

Tip 3:

Eat to Heal: Make sure your body is getting the energy to heal – don’t reduce your food intake because you’re exercising less! Your body is working hard to fix itself, and the better equipped it is to do so the faster it will be. You can also add supplements like omega 3 to help fight inflammation, and take a lot of chamomile tea.
