Feng Shui Your Life

By now we’re pretty sure most of you will know what Feng Shui is or have heard about it. But have you adopted it yet? Do you even know how? Allow us to explain…

Feng Shui is important for people who want to interact with the energy (or ‘chi’) in their surroundings. You don’t need to be superstitious, you don’t have to have a lucky number, you just need to believe that their are good and possibly bad ‘vibes’ (if you will) around you. The term Feng Shui directly translates to ‘wind water’, and is used to convey our association with the environment we live in. In this article we will only hover over the simple divisions of good and bad chi, where Sheng chi is positive, composed, curing and attracts good fortune, and Sha chi is the complete opposite.

If you’re a yoga instructor and want to Feng Shui your studio, here’s a few guidance tips:

  • You want to keep things looking spacious and light, therefore use the corners to your advantage to place any small tables or chairs, whilst breaking up the straight and softening the edges with ornaments such as statues or books. Your Ganesha has to be placed perfectly and has to have an important presence in the room as this will protect you from any bad obstacles.
  • Attract the light in by keeping your windows relatively un-garnished, and place some yoga mats or meditation mats there for your students to sit on. They will soak up the energy from the sun and this will induce them to come back again.
  • Figure out where the air is coming in from, and perhaps you’d like to place some special Chakra Incenses there to enhance the scent of the room, creating a very calm atmosphere for you and your students to practice in.

If you are a yogi fanatic, yoga student, or just an individual who’d like to learn how to Feng Shui their environment? Read on to find out how you can incorporate this beautiful way to your home:

  • The 7 Chakras in your body cannot be neglected. You need to feel comfortable not only in your home but in your skin. This is why it’s important to dress accordingly, to feel as though you can relax in your clothes, and therefore in your mind and spirit. (Browse our Chakra clothing collection for men & women here).
  • To feel a sense of security, place your bed next to a wall or your desk in a certain position where it allows you to be facing the door when you are sat behind it. Don’t place your bed opposite the door as this disturbs the chi energy.
  • Water features not only allow you to relax the mind and body, it sends out negative ions in the air which in turn have a positive effect on chi. It is believed that having two goldfish in a bowl is a sign of wealth and this in turn attracts good chi.
  • Sounds & Scents are very important. Lavender scents are extremely calming to the nerves, and incenses will tranquilise your environment, especially when meditating or performing spiritual practices.

Hope this helps 🙂 let us know in the comments if you have used Feng Shui to decorate your home or studio and if you like, send us photos for inspiration!
