The Meaning of Muladhara – The Root Chakra

The meaning of Muladhara (or the Root Chakra) is the foundation of the self. It’s likely you’ll have seen the symbol of the Muladhara on our Chakra products, or at Kundalini Yoga class. In this article we’ll cover the basics of the Muladhara and how to identify problems with it. So let’s get started:

A simple phrase to remember: A tree with strong roots can endure any winds.

When we look at our Root Chakra we are investigating our basic self and needs. We lead complicated and busy lives – it’s very easy for us to get caught up in our head, focusing on immaterial ideas. Focusing on the root Chakra is the process of bringing yourself back ‘down to earth’. It your anchor to the physical world and the ability to reconnect with your environment and basic needs. It is so easy to lose touch with your roots when the modern world demands so much more from our minds than our bodies. So before we can work on our spiritual and emotional self, we must first build strong roots in the real, physical world.
